

Entry-level SQl Server Developer
About the Role
You have one or two in-depth, real-world experiences working with an enterprise RDBMS (SQL Server is ideal), and know that you excel at SQL data structures. Plain-vanilla enterprise application building leaves you wanting more, though—you’re curious about large or complex data (financial, accounting, or similar), flexible data structures, and extensibility. You’re self-motivated, enjoy hands-on work, and want your next career step to take you in a direction with tougher challenges, pushing the limits of metadata-driven structures that feed a dynamic multi-tier architecture.

We’re a fast-growing vendor to the private fund industry (i.e. hedge funds, private equity funds) with an immediate opportunity for a sharp junior SQL Server developer to join our seasoned dev team here in NYC. The flagship application is a complex n-tier platform built on the Microsoft stack (.NET 4.0/4.5, C#, WCF, SQL Server 2008 R2+/2012, WinForms, WPF, ASP.NET MVC), serving a large and demanding client base in both local and cloud environments.
Responsibilities:

Maintain and enhance existing data-driven application features and behaviors

Extend complex SQL structures and the data layers and processes built on them

Integrate with large existing code base and industry and firm best practices, including source control (Mercurial/Kiln)

Participate in the complete SDLC, including requirements/specifications, development, testing/QA, and delivery/support

Work and grow aggressively and with independence as part of an established dev team with combined decades of experience building best-in-class enterprise software
Skills & Requirements:

1-3 years of experience as SQL developer

Excellent understanding of database fundamentals: what the rules are, and when to break them

Experience with or deep curiosity for complex data structures, such as recursive tables and , dynamic SQL operations, complex metadata

Notions of n-tier architecture, some C#/.NET preferred

First-rate problem-solving skills, especially relating to query optimization and data handling

Facility with large datasets, financial or other, is preferred
